It's a beautiful life

Living a bachelor life... in the true sense. With parents off to Chennai for a couple of weeks, I am experiencing for the first time, what it feels like, to be living alone ( though have been away from home for long, it's always been with some friends or the other ). It's not been bad. Actually, it's been really nice, to be doing things on your own, and at your own pace.

Tried cooking, after a very long time ( almost a year and half maybe ). Had invited anu for lunch, just to make sure that I spend some time cooking over the weekend. Was relieved to find out that I can still cook some stuff that can pass-off as sambhar and poriyal. Infact, the tastes were pretty decent - did not messup with the uppu, puli, kaaram ratio. However, ended up messing the presentation part. The sambhar was not thick enough and the palak I tried ended up more like a soup.

Rented out 'Guru' in the evening and watched it during the night. Not a great movie I'd say. Kind of an above average movie with good dialogues in the middle. Abhishek was brilliant, Aishwarya was bit of a let-down ( could have put in a stronger performer in her place ). Vidya Balan and Madhavan were decent and was surprised to see Mithun perform such strong role. Movie definitely worth watching.

Sometimes I get amazed at the futility of our educational system in the current form. All it teaches is how to memorise things and put it down on paper in a neat way. And, there are super-competitive exams that are solely based on ones ability to memorise things. For eg. I was having a chat with one of my cousins who had just finished his tenth standard board exams. For some reason, our conversation turned into studies. He was dictating ( yes, literally dicatating ) the solution for the problem to prove that the trajectory of a projectile is a parabola. I was quite impressed with his explanation. And, I asked him ok, tell me what the question actually means. He said he did not quite understand my question. I asked him what is a 'projectile' and what is a 'trajectory'. He said, 'oh.. we have not studied about it'!!
