Finally, things settled down to manageable levels. Finally finished most of my work at 4.30 in the morning and went home to sleep. Whiled away lot of time in meetings today in office. Ended up doing no/minimal work. I need to understand this phenomenon of not doing any work the day after the deadline. Maybe because I develop a personal enimity towards work while slogging like a dog for the deadline. And by not doing work the next day, am I feeling like , I am exhibiting my supremacy over work. Funny are the tendencies of homo sapiens !

One good thing I did ( or atleast I thought I did ) was to book tickets to Goa for Diwali vacations. Btw, both indianrail.gov.in and irctc.co.in suck. Now indianrail site shows me that a train runs on all days, while it does not actually. And, irctc.... man, it tones the patience level of a person greatly. Had to play around with the site for nearly 30-40 mins to find I did not have the train running on that particular day. Lots of small usability issues with the site which makes using the site really irritating. For eg. the form values are not retained when the page returns with an error. You fill up all the values again and submit just to find out another error ! Too poor for a site that earns so much ( heard somewhere that irctc was the fastest growing B2C site in South-East Asia ). Finally ended up booking a ticket in Air Deccan. ( that was really neat... hmm.. still wondering why government related things have to be so inneficient ). Well.. coming to the best part.. after all this, I learn that I won't be able to manage an accomodation in Goa during that time ! Grrrrrr.......

So, what am I doing in the office at 1.40 in the night. My deadline and the work for that was supposed to be over. Hmm.. that's another phenominon that I am interested in understanding. Why do people never get sleep after the deadline.. Same used to happen on the night after the last examination.

"It was a hectic week" is an understatement. Put lotsa fight to hit the deadline and made it finally..actually..kinda made it. ( Want to find out if there is any programmer who misses his deadline .. or for that matter.. any programmer who does not work much harder when deadline is just around the corner ). Had been spending the week with my comps, AR Rahman songs , my favourite bean bag and not so favourite code. It was such a relief to sleep in my home bed after one long week. Sleep is bliss !
Well.. one thing that I definitely learnt out of this exercise is software engineering is not bull-shit. Design ( and do a thorough job in this phase ), before starting to code. It would reduce coding time very drastically. Esp. when working on a huge code base on a core issue, there is no escape from spending whole lot of time investigating and designing, lest you want to end up spending a horrible time around your deadline.
Amidst the hectic period was a nice weekend well spent at Bandipur. It's a wildlife sanctuary and went there hoping to see lots of wild animals, esp. elephants. Well, all I got to see were 3 tamed elephants. Nevertheless, the two day stay theret was fun and nice distraction from the dull city life( or should I say cubicle life ).
