Freewill

Was thinking about the concept of freewill. The whole concept seemed meaningless. No one does anything just because he likes it. 'Liking' could be one of the considerations when one decides on a choice, but is definitely not the only one. Especially, in a country like mine, I don't think one can find many people whose decisions are solely influenced by their 'liking'. People do a lots of things for others. People do not do a lot of things because they wont 'look good'. People take great efforst to do things just because it is the 'norm'.

simple example - how many Indians go on a world trip. Or, atleast go one a one month trip ( say during switching jobs or whatever.. ). Does it mean that we are not fond of travelling? It's just that staying jobless for one month ( esp. when you are capable of getting a job ), is unusual. And no one would approve of losing one month's salary. Or, simpley put, it's just not the norm.

Well.. I should not be complaining / commenting so much, as I myself have done a lots of things because that was the norm then. Otherwise, I would have been an MSc / PhD in Physics and not a BE in Computer Science. And, I would have stuck to my first campus job , than pick up this one. ( Though, I don't regret for both is a different issue ).

You are looking for boolean logic in human beings. Thats next to impossible except in fiction. Free-will exists as a fuzzy value in all people. For some its 10% free-will, for some its 90% free-will and 10% external influence. The same way there are no black and white - good or bad people, but people with various shades of gray...

Agree... But what pains me is the fact that the % of freewill in decision making for Indians seems to be lot less than 50%.
