All I am is a coding monkey
Have been thinking of this a lot. What do I do every day. Code , code and more code. But, do I really want to do something else? Do I want to manage a project? Do I want to take responsibility for a project and deliver it to the customer. Well.. not really.. Management has not been my cup of tea anyday. Some more deeper thought reveals ( atleast seems to reveal ) that 'analysis' is the thing that I like about my techie side of the work. Probably, I'd be happier ( or atleast as happy ) if I were a business analyst trying to create $$ for companies. Lets see.. Where life takes me. ( Never had the habit of taking my life .. always let it take me ).

There are lots of ppl who code, code & code. But all are not the same. Most of them code, re-code & re-code & debug & debug. And not even 10% of them are good in the analysis part. I have seen this even in many experienced programmers. They do good coding, but can't think clearly, can't think of a solution on their own. But, ya, I 100% agree with you. The analysis, problem-solving nature of our job is the most exciting part
if you think coding is mundane, think of the plight of the testers... as far as the excitement in analysis is concerned, think about the excitement of managers... maintaining a team of coding monkeys... :D
Well.. about the managers who maintain the team of coding monkeys.. all I can say is, it's just as interesting or as taxing to the person as much as he/she wants to get involved into. And, talking abt managers, I am reminded of something I read somewhere - poor programming competence had never been an issue in software projects, it's always the poor management that has left to failures.
